FEATURED AUTHOR
Part of this journey to becoming a published author is learning to share things about myself. I think it’s harder than writing! I’ve loved telling stories for most of my life and to create worlds I could escape into, living life as my characters do. I’m so thrilled to have my debut novel, No Fantasy Required, being released as an ebook by Lyrical Press this November.
The first romance novel I read was at age twelve. I woke up Christmas morning to find Taylor Caldwell’s Ceremony of the Innocent in my stocking. I devoured it and my passion for reading began, followed on its heels by a longing to write.
Everyone has moments in their life that test them and I’m no different. Here I am today living my dream of becoming a published author and ready to experience all life has to offer.
I hope I can tempt and carry you along on a journey of passion to vivid locations with squirm in your seat plots and characters that will come to life for you, so you too can escape into another world.
When I’m not writing or the ideas are not percolating around in my head, I love to travel, spend time on a patio, preferably overlooking the water with a yummy cocktail in hand or lounged in a steamy hot tub, which could include a glass of red wine. I’m a single mom of two college-aged sons, one back at home after giving it a go in the big wide world. I’m tucked away in a small town outside Toronto with my faithful old Chocolate Lab and share my ideas and inspiration with the special man in my life.

A BAD GIRL at heart, Vivi Anna likes to burn up the pages with her original unique brand of fantasy fiction. Whether it's in ancient Egypt, or in an apocalyptic future, Vivi always writes fast paced action-adventure with strong independent women that can kick some butt, and dark delicious heroes to kill for.

Once shot at while repossessing a car, Vivi decided that maybe her life needed a change. The first time she picked up a pen and put words to paper, she knew she had found her heart. Within two paragraphs, she realized she could write about getting into all sorts of trouble without suffering the consequences.

When Vivi isn't writing, you can find her causing a ruckus at downtown bistros, flea markets, or playgrounds.

Mary has always had a creative hunger she loved to feed, starting with her work in the darkroom manipulating and producing beautiful photographs. When computers changed the landscape of the commercial darkroom, she turned to photography, shooting folk CD covers and knitting books, as well as to gardening, to naming her delightful Australian Shepherd after her music goddess Emmy Lou Harris, and to crafting her daughter’s crazy ideas for Halloween costumes—a door, a woman sitting in an armchair, and the huge Gimme Five hand the year she came home from school and complained about the boys slapping her back all day!

A few years ago, she picked up LaVyrle Spencer’s Morning Glory and became hooked on romance. Mary discovered Harlequin Superromance and knew she wanted to write these heartfelt stories of love, family, perseverance and happy endings, about very human heroes and heroines graced with backbone, strength of character and hope. She loves that moment when, even though it looks like these characters will never be able to make their love work, they then, against impossible odds, do.

In 2005, she was a finalist in RWA’s Golden Heart Contest. Who knew daydreaming could feel so rewarding? Look for her first Superromance, NO ORDINARY COWBOY, available on June 9, 2009.

Hard to imagine a more glamorous life than being an accountant, isn’t it? Still, CJ Carmichael gave up the thrills of income tax forms and double entry book-keeping when she sold her first book in 1998. She has now written over 28 novels for Harlequin, most of them Superromances. CJ likes to write stories about romance, family and intrigue. She’s inspired by real-life scenarios...the kind you read about in magazines and watch on the nightly news on television. When it’s time to take a break from the computer, she heads to the Rocky Mountains near her home in Calgary. If you’d like to learn more about her books, or see photos of her hiking exploits, check out her re-vamped website: http://cjcarmichael.com. Make sure to enter her contest as she’s giving away lots of free books to celebrate her latest book, Christmas With Daddy.

Barbara Kyle’s novel The Queen’s Lady, released August 2008, has been hailed as “riveting, heady, glorious, inspired” by bestselling author Susan Wiggs. “Weaves a fast-paced plot through some of the most harrowing years of English history” (Judith Merkle Riley). The exciting sequel, The King’s Daughter, will be released in March 2009. And Barbara’s many fans will be glad to know that her publisher, Kensington Books, has just signed her for two more Tudor-era novels to follow that.

Barbara’s previous books were thrillers written under her pen-name ‘Stephen Kyle’, including Beyond Recall which was a Literary Guild Selection and enjoyed booming sales throughout North America.

Barbara presents many workshops and courses for writers’ organizations. Expanding her successful workshops into video production, she produced her popular series of DVDs “Writing Fiction That Sells” – a set of four DVD videos – to help the new and emerging writer create the kind of compelling and marketable novel that publishers want.

Before becoming an author Barbara enjoyed a twenty-year acting career in television, film, and theatre productions in Canada and the US.

The Queen’s Lady, set in the nerve-jangled court of Henry VIII during his battle with the Catholic church for a divorce, is the story of Honor Larke, ward of the brilliant Sir Thomas More and lady-in-waiting to Henry’s first wife, Queen Catherine of Aragon. Forced to take sides in the religious extremism of the day, Honor fights to save the church’s victims from death at the stake, enlisting Richard Thornleigh, a rogue sea captain, in her missions of mercy. The sequel, The King’s Daughter, continues the adventures of the Thornleigh family into the reign of Queen Mary.

Introducing an outstanding new voice in fantasy fiction
Written by Matt Curran

Winter on the lawless plains of the Emmenrule. En route to her wedding in the fortified city of Croad, the beautiful Lady Isola is kidnapped. What is worse, her captor is the infamous Beauceron. But, ruthless as he may be, Beauceron is no ordinary brigand: it is his life's ambition to capture Croad itself – and he will stop at nothing to achieve it.

Mondia, though, is a continent of many stories, and in Croad, a young man named Arren has been taken under the wing of the city's ruler, Lord Thaume. Although of low birth, Arren is destined to become a knight of valour and renown. But as his fortunes rise, so those of his childhood friend Eilla fall.

Beauceron has returned with his human plunder to his home – the exquisite frozen city of Mettingloom. There, the imperious Isola finds herself reassessing her former loyalties as she struggles to adapt to her new life. Beauceron, meanwhile, is manoeuvring to raise an army. He is determined to defeat his enemies, both inside and outside Mettingloom – and to capture the city he loathes.

But what is the source of Beauceron’s obsession with Croad? Can Arren reconcile his youthful ambitions with his growing feelings for Eilla? And just who is the Dog of the North?

Tim Stretton’s debut novel is a spellbinding tale of loyalty and betrayal, homeland and exile, set in a brilliantly imagined world of political intrigue, sorcery, and warfare on an epic scale.

About the author:

Tim Stretton was born on the Isle of Wight in 1967. A graduate of English and American Literature, he now lives in West Sussex.
